Time tells you how long it took.
Pace tells you how quickly you moved.
Steps tell you how many steps you took.
Each metric measures an important part of movement.
But none of them measure the defining characteristic of intentional movement under load:
The external load you carried.
Training under load
Intentional movement under load means adding external weight to movement for training.
That weight may come from a weighted vest, backpack, weight belt, ankle or wrist cuffs, or other equipment designed to add resistance while you move.
The objective isn't simply to walk farther.
It's to move external load over distance.
The same mile, different load
Imagine three people walking the same one-mile route.
The first walks without added load.
The second wears a 20-pound weighted vest.
The third carries a 40-pound backpack.
All three complete the same mile.
All three record the same distance.
But they didn’t move the same amount of external load.
The distance is identical.
The load carried over that distance is not.
The missing variable
External load changes every step.
Every pound you intentionally carry must be moved over every foot, every yard, and every mile.
As the load increases, so does the amount of external weight moved over the same distance.
Yet that relationship has traditionally not been captured in a single, consistent metric.
That's the missing measurement.

Running has distance and pace.
Cycling has power.
Strength training has sets, reps, and weight.
Every major form of training has developed a way to measure what makes it unique.
Movement under load has traditionally relied on distance, steps, and time—even though none of those metrics account for the defining variable: external load.
