RECORD RULES

Version 1.0 — Effective August 31, 2026

Weightpace Official Record Rules

Weightpace Records recognize verified performances completed under defined and consistent conditions. Official Weightpace Records are established through approved record attempts, not self-reported activity. A performance becomes an Official Weightpace Record only when the attempt is completed under approved conditions and the required load, distance, and elapsed time can be verified.

1. Official Record Categories

Weightpace Records are established by:

Weightpace Target + Load Class

Initial official categories are:

100 WP

10 lb × 10 miles
20 lb × 5 miles
30 lb × 3⅓ miles
40 lb × 2.5 miles

250 WP

10 lb × 25 miles
20 lb × 12.5 miles
30 lb × 8⅓ miles
40 lb × 6.25 miles

500 WP

10 lb × 50 miles
20 lb × 25 miles
30 lb × 16⅔ miles
40 lb × 12.5 miles

Required distance is determined by:

Weightpace ÷ Load Class = Distance

Distances shown on the scoreboard may be rounded for readability. Official attempt distances are established before the attempt begins.

2. Movement Method

Participants may walk, hike, jog, or run. There is no required pace or movement style. The objective is to complete the defined Weightpace target in the shortest verified elapsed time while continuously carrying the required external load.

3. External Load

Official load classes are:

10 lb · 20 lb · 30 lb · 40 lb

Each official load class represents the qualifying external load for that record category. The external load must be independently verified and approved for the stated load class before the attempt begins.

Carrying additional load does not create a separate record category or reduce the required distance for that load class unless Weightpace has established and approved a different official category.

Qualifying load may be carried using:

Weighted vests
Backpacks or rucks
Weight belts
Weighted apparel
Other approved load-carrying equipment

The qualifying external load is based on the total verified weight of the loaded carrying system worn or carried by the participant, including the weight of the vest, pack, belt, or other approved load-carrying equipment when included in the official pre-attempt weigh-in.

Body weight does not count toward Weightpace. Normal clothing, shoes, phones, watches, and similar personal items do not count toward the qualifying external load. The qualifying load must remain with the participant for the entire record distance.

4. Load Verification

The qualifying external load must be independently verified immediately before an Official Weightpace Record attempt. The complete qualifying load used for the attempt must be weighed using an approved scale. Weightpace or an approved official must confirm the load and record category before the attempt begins. Post-attempt verification may also be required. The qualifying load may not be removed, reduced, exchanged, or transferred during the attempt.

5. Approved Record Conditions

Official Weightpace Records may only be established under conditions approved by Weightpace before the attempt begins.

Approved conditions may include:

Official Weightpace events
Weightpace-sanctioned record attempts
Approved partner events
Attempts supervised by an authorized Weightpace official

A GPS activity or other performance submitted independently after completion does not qualify as an Official Weightpace Record.

6. Course Requirements

Record attempts may take place on an approved outdoor or indoor course.

Approved course formats may include:

Point-to-point
Out-and-back
Looped
Track-based

Indoor courses must be measured courses or tracks. Treadmills are not included in the initial Weightpace Record categories. The course and required distance must be approved before the attempt begins. Participants must follow the approved course for the duration of the attempt. Shortcuts or deviations that reduce the required distance invalidate the attempt.

7. Elevation

Weightpace Records do not currently apply performance adjustments for elevation gain or loss. Routes that provide a material net downhill advantage are not eligible for Official Weightpace Records. Routes must be approved by Weightpace before an official attempt. Weightpace may establish specific elevation limits or separate elevation-based record categories in the future.

8. Treadmills

Treadmill performances are not included in the initial Weightpace Record categories. Treadmill records may be established in the future as a separate category with standardized equipment, calibration, and verification requirements.

9. Distance Verification

The full approved distance must be completed and independently verifiable.

Approved verification methods may include:

Officially measured event courses
Certified tracks or measured loops
GPS activity data from an approved device
Other measurement methods approved by Weightpace

For record categories where the calculated distance contains a repeating decimal, the official course distance or required completion point will be established before the attempt. Distances shown on the public scoreboard may be rounded for readability and do not replace the official distance established for the record attempt.

For official record purposes, timing ends at the approved completion point corresponding to the required Weightpace target. Additional distance completed after that point does not affect the Official Weightpace Record.

10. Timing

Official Weightpace Records are based on elapsed time, not moving time. Timing begins at the official start of the attempt and ends when the participant reaches the approved completion point for the required distance. Rest stops, hydration stops, equipment adjustments, and other pauses remain part of elapsed time.

The clock does not stop during an official record attempt.

11. WP Rate

WP Rate measures the rate at which Weightpace is produced.

WP Rate = Weightpace ÷ Time in Hours

Each Official Weightpace Record displays both:

Record Time
WP Rate

WP Rate is calculated using the official Weightpace target and verified elapsed time. The fastest verified elapsed time within each Weightpace target and load class holds the Official Weightpace Record. WP Rate serves as the corresponding performance measure and is not a separate record category.

12. Support and Hydration

Participants may receive hydration and nutrition during an attempt unless otherwise restricted by the specific record conditions. The required qualifying load must remain unchanged throughout the attempt. Another person may not carry any portion of the participant's qualifying load. Transportation, drafting by a vehicle, or other mechanical assistance is prohibited.

13. Record Validation

A performance is not an Official Weightpace Record until it has been reviewed and approved by Weightpace.

Verification may include review of:

External load
Course and distance
Elapsed time
GPS or activity data
Event documentation
Video or photographic evidence
Observations from authorized officials

Weightpace reserves the right to reject a performance when compliance with the applicable record conditions cannot be verified.

14. Record Status

Each record is listed as:

OPEN
No Official Weightpace Record has yet been established for that Weightpace target and load class.

OFFICIAL
A qualifying performance has met the applicable verification requirements and currently holds the record.

When a faster qualifying performance is verified, it becomes the new Official Weightpace Record.

15. Safety

Participants are responsible for selecting activities appropriate for their experience and ability. Official record categories are performance benchmarks and should not be interpreted as recommendations to carry a particular load or complete a particular distance. Participation in any record attempt is voluntary and at the participant's own risk.

16. Rule Updates

Weightpace may revise these rules as the record system develops. Record attempts are governed by the version of the Official Weightpace Record Rules in effect on the date of the attempt. Material changes to record categories, measurement standards, or verification requirements will be reflected in future versions of these rules.

THE STANDARD

Weightpace defines the goal. Load defines the record. Time and WP Rate define the performance.

Official Weightpace Records create consistent, measurable, and verifiable benchmarks for movement under load.
